March Meetup - Web GL & Text Wrangling and Machine Learning
We’ll be meeting at CodeClan on Castle Terrace, on Thurs 23rd March, 18:30 for drinks & pizza, a 19:00 start for the talks.
Note the change of venue to last year!
Our talks are geared towards introducing members of our community, to facilitate networking, mentorship, learning and collaboration. People with all levels of technical expertise are welcome.
This month we have a talks on:
- Getting Started with WebGL, Alec McEachran
- Text wrangling, JavaScript and Machine Learning, Glenn Jones
Alec’s talk:
WebGL can turn web pages into 3D worlds and web developers into game developers. We’ll discuss what WebGL is, how it is put together, and briefly show you how @react-three/fiber can help you quickly integrate 3D into your React web pages
Glenn’s talk:
More organisations are looking to automate tasks and gain insights from large amounts of text. JavaScript is a powerful language for text wrangling and machine learning, allowing developers to quickly and easily manipulate text data. We will look at different approaches from rules-based parsing to neural nets.
Exploring what JavaScript frameworks, workflows and processes are available to build real world apps. This is a gentle introduction which should be interesting and useful to all JavaScript coders.
We have set up a Discord server for people to share links, tips, jobs and JavaScript problems. We will be posting slides after the event there. Join via the link on scottishtechnology.club.
If you will have financial difficulty in paying for transport to the event then please do let us know, as we have a diversity and hardship fund.
We have spaces for another technical talk or “community intros” in the following months, so if you want to showcase a side project or talk about your JavaScript development journey then please do fill out our speakers form.
